In the previous day, WHO reported more than 150,000 new cases of covid-19, the highest number of contagions reported in a single day so far.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned on Friday that “the world is in a dangerous new phase” of the “accelerating” coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s understandable that a lot of people are sick of being home. It is understandable that countries are eager to open their societies and economies,” he said. “But the virus is still spreading rapidly, it remains deadly and most people are still vulnerable,” said WHO Director-General.
Study concludes that the coronavirus mutation multiplies its ‘spikes’ and makes it more infectious
Ghebreyesus stressed that more than 150,000 new cases of covid-19 were reported to WHO on 18 June, representing the largest number of contagions reported in a single day so far.” Nearly half of these cases were reported from the Americas, and large numbers were also reported from South Asia and the Middle East,” the director-general said.
In view of this, WHO has called on “all countries and all people” to continue to maintain “extreme vigilance”, continue to respect social distance and remain at home if one feels sick. “Keep covering your nose and mouth when you cough. Wear a mask when appropriate. Keep washing your hands,” they’ve cluded..
