10 guidelines for managing stress during confinement

Avoid over information

The time we spend listening to or watching the news, conversational topics related to coronavirus, or the tireless avalanche of information through social media contributes to increasing fears. Therefore, we must limit the time spent talking and receiving information, choosing official sources of information and limiting our use of technologies  as well as television to find moments of disconnection and thus take care of ourselves emotionally, thus reducing our degree of discomfort.

Set up routines

We must set a schedule to work, eat, perform some sport at home as well as, to allocate  free time to share with family from home or with friends through social networks or videoconference. It is important to be able to maintain routines despite the situation, whether we live alone or as a family, the schedules will help us to adapt better to the situation.

Maintaining social contacts

Sverding some of our time talking to family and friends either over the phone or through social media makes the feeling of loneliness less. Sharing moments, taking an interest in the health of our loved ones, and chatting in a relaxed way about topics unrelated to Covid-19 brings a sense of unity and mutual support.

Exercise

Through physical exercise we secrete endorphins, a hormone that contributes to improving our mood and our overall well-being.  Therefore, it is important that every day we spend part of our time to physical activity. Today, we have countless online videos and tutorials to be able to spend our time on that exercise that we like and motivate. It can be a fun activity to do with family or even by video call with friends.

Healthy diet

Having good eating habits in times of confinement is also important. Sometimes staying at home for a long time can lead to more eating between hours. Planning a weekly menu will help avoid emotional hunger.

Hygiene and personal care

Hygiene habits should not be neglected by the fact that you do not have to leave home and go to work or meet friends. It’s easy to fall into the temptation to go in your pajamas or clothes to be home by not having to go to work or meet friends. Aseasm helps normalize an unusual situation.

Boost creativity

Beyond the time spent on telework, there are many free hours that we have to spend at home without the possibility of going out on the street. Boredom is a fantastic ally of creativity. Dedicate a few hours of the day to let the imagination fly by making crafts, writing, drawing, playing an instrument, playing… will make us discover a part of us that in our usual routines often has no place for lack of time.

Propose some challenges

Why not, take advantage of the confinement situation to pose some challenges or tasks that we always think we don’t have time to do. We all have a small list of to-dos or activities that our busy day-to-day keeps us from doing. Start a book, order, fix something from home… will help you feel that time passes faster and we are making the most of the time.

Sense of humor

Laughing helps you relax and  therefore our anxiety levels will be reduced. Using our sense of humor helps you cope with our stress. A sense of humor can help us relativize the situation and temporarily disconnect from the concern around Covid-19.
